Science on Tap
October 21, 2014 5:00 PM to 7:00 PMScience on Tap: Deciphering the neural code: Identifying novel treatments for mental illness through understanding brain function. Chicago Connect
Presented by: Christopher Lapish, Assistant Professor, Psychology
Recent advances in the neurosciences allow us to assess brain function with a high level of precision. With this ability, an understanding of the basic mechanisms the brain employs to encode various aspects of cognitive function are beginning to emerge. This is particularly important as a number of neuropsychiatric disorders are characterized by deficits in cognitive function and this pathology is not adequately treated with current approaches. As we learn more about brain function, and how it encodes information about our internal and external environment, how can this information be leveraged to treat disorders such as schizophrenia and addiction?
